CULBERTSON VFW AUXILLARY EASTER EGG HUNT for Preschool through 3rd grades on Friday, March 31st, at 1:00PM at the Hillside Park in Culbertson.  Treats for everyone!

The NSCAS (Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System) state test is coming up soon! We start testing at the end of March. The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade will take math and language arts test. The fifth grade will also take the science test.  It is very important that students are in school now more than ever.

Teachers spend class time on test preparation throughout the year

As a parent, there are a number of ways that you can support your child before and after taking a standardized test, as well as a number of ways you can support your child's learning habits on a daily basis that will help her be more prepared when it's time to be tested.

While many parents, educators, school leaders, and policymakers disagree about the kinds of tests administered, how the scores should be used, and how frequently students should be tested, it is important to be supportive of your child's efforts on standardized tests, and to help him or her do their best.

Please note that these tips have been adapted from articles published by Scholastic, Inc., the National Parent Teacher Association, and the International Reading Association, and that the sources are indicated after each section of tips.

PBiS Field Trip:

The elementary will go on a field trip at the end of the year. This year, students that have more than 3 major referrals will not go on the field trip. Three minor referrals will equal one major referral.

This policy will take effect starting next Monday, January 15. So far this year, we have had 141 Zero Heroes. These are students who have not had any discipline referrals. For the month of December, the elementary had 150 zero heroes or 97% of the student body.

We have great students here at the elementary and we are always striving for perfection. Please help us with your support in making sure that every kid gets to go on the field trip.

If a decision is made to close school, start late, or release early, local news media will be notified.  The information will also be on the Elementary school’s answering machine.  The information is broadcast on the following radio stations:  KRVN (880 AM and 93.1 FM), KICX (96.1 FM), KIOD (105.3 FM), KFNF (101.1 FM), and television stations NTV (Kearney) and KOLN/KGIN (Grand Island).  If there is a late start, there will be no Preschool.  Parents should call the school at 308-278-2131 if they have not received automated calls regarding snow days or late starts.

If your student’s after school plans change, please contact the office directly with a phone call or by sending a note with your student. For example, if a student normally rides the bus but isn’t going to that day, the office, teachers and bus drivers need to know.  (Same thing for those who don’t normally ride the bus, but need to that day.)  Almost 140 students board the buses after school here in Culbertson.  Several get on another bus after they reach the high school. Please call the office before 2:40 with any changes. Notes are distributed daily to teachers 30 minutes before dismissal, letting them know of any changes.
