Science 8 Glossary

independent variable- the variable that is changed or controlled in a scientific experiment-- the variables that the experimenter changes to test their dependent variable--change in the independent variable directly causes a change in the dependent variable

dependent variable-  variable that is  measured in a scientific experiment--The dependent variable gets its name from the fact that it depends on the independent variable.  As the experimenter manipulates the independent variable, a change in the dependent variable is observed and recorded.
